The University of Reading was established in 1892 and has a strong reputation as a research-intensive university. Consistently ranked "Outstanding" by Ofsted, Reading's Institute of Education (IoE) is recognised internationally as a world-class provider of teacher training.

The IoE is part of the University-wide Centre for Literacy and Multilingualism (CeLM), established in September 2013.  In carrying out state-of-the-art empirical research in Education, Linguistics, Modern Languages, Neuroscience and Psychology, researchers in CeLM aim to ensure the outcomes of the research have a positive and lasting impact on stakeholders in the public and private sectors. CeLM also hosts a branch of Bilingualism Matters, which provides advice and information on child bilingualism to anyone interested or involved in raising, educating and caring for bilingual and multilingual children. Suzanne Graham, Professor of Language and Education, is a Co-Investigator and the lead for Stand 7, Linguistic Creativity in Language Learning.
