The Association for Language Learning (ALL) is the major subject association for those involved in teaching foreign languages at all levels, working with teachers and teacher educators across the UK. It aims to encourage an understanding of the importance of languages in our society; promote the development of language policies which reflect the linguistic diversity and the language needs of the country and its population; advance public understanding of language learning and the techniques and approaches for successful language teaching; and promote improved standards of language teaching.
The Association has already provided valuable input to the Strand through its Literature Project, a wiki housing case studies of teachers who have worked with foreign language texts. The Strand will draw on these to develop materials for use in the research, thus ensuring that the teaching approaches included are those that are rooted in the practice of ordinary classroom teachers. With its extensive links with practitioners, ALL will advise on user-engagement and impact activities. It will also support the Strand in the dissemination of its findings, through the posting of web-based materials and research summaries, as well as through presentations by the research team at local ALL events for practitioners, and at ALL’s annual conference. ALL representatives will also be encouraged to contribute to the planned publications arising from the project.
