Stephen Spender

The Stephen Spender Prize for poetry in translation 2019 is now open, with Margaret Jull CostaOlivia McCannon and Mary Jean Chan confirmed as judges.

Entrants in the UK or Ireland are invited to submit an English translation of a published poem from any language, ancient or modern, together with a commentary of no more than 300 words. Translations up to 60 lines long are welcomed, and extracts are accepted. Prizes range from £100, up to £1000 for first place in the open competition.

There are three categories in the main prize: Open (adult), 18-and-under and 14-and-under, and the Polish Spotlight returns for a second year running for entrants aged 18-and-under. The closing date for entires is 12 July 2019. Find out more at http://www.stephen-spender.org
